Abdou W. Kane, CFA

Abdou has been involved either as an advisor, principal investor or as a lender in a variety of property asset classes across the entire capital structure. 
Abdou started his property investment career at the Whitehall group of funds for Goldman Sachs in Japan in 2001 before moving to Europe in 2003. 
Abdou later joined Nomura international as a Vice President in the Asset Finance Group. He then joined UBS in 2007 as an Associate Director in the real estate finance department where he was initially responsible for structuring real estate loans for the bank before moving into a senior bank relationship management role.

Abdou holds an Honours (BSc) degree in Business Studies from Hitotsubashi University in Tokyo and is a Chartered Financial Analyst. He is a native English and French speaker and fluent in Japanese.

 

Albert Gardiner

Albert has seven years experience in investment banking and joined Goldman Sachs in 1999; Albert worked for four years in the mergers and acquisitions department advising clients in the consumer and retail sectors, then three years as an equity research analyst covering the European Food Retail sector.
Since June 2007 Albert has been involved in the portfolio and asset management of commercial properties in Germany in the retail sector and is conducting extensive corporate and financial restructuring work. Albert has also been involved in a number of consultancy projects including a sell-side advisory mandate for Enstar Capital and the feasibility study and structuring of a closed-ended US retail property fund.

Albert holds an Honours degree (BSc) in Business Studies from London Guildhall University. He is a native English and French speaker and is fluent in German.

 

The partners’ notable transactions to date include:

  • Marketing a €200 million senior loan secured on 261 retail properties located in Finland to European banks and other financial institutions (2008)
  • Asset and financial management of a German food retail portfolio comprising 23 assets with a value in excess of €80 million (from 2007)
  • Executing a £45 million senior loan investment secured on a land site on Blackfriars Bridge Road, London. The land site is earmarked for luxury apartments and a 5 star hotel (2007)
  • Structuring a £110 million 15 months whole business bridge debt for the acquisition of a UK based special needs school operator (2006)
  • Managing over a 2 year period the loan work out of a £230 million bridge facility to a prominent London exhibition venue (from 2004)
  • Acquiring Coeur Defense, a landmark office building located in Paris, on behalf of the Whitehall funds. The investment was structured as part mezzanine and part equity. Transaction value was €1.4 billion (2004)
  • Underwriting and invested £270 million in the form of an unsecured mezzanine loan and £600 million in the form of equity as part of the take-private acquisition of Canary Wharf Plc (2004)
  • Leading the acquisition of a US$ 450 million hotel portfolio that was being sold by Daiei Inc, a large Japanese conglomerate. First private equity sponsored hotel deal in Japan (2003)
